Discover The Buchan Difference

Location, Location, Location

We are proud to have been chosen over 10 years ago to operate The Buchan Nursery in a fantastic and unique setting within the grounds of the Buchan school, giving us access to over 13 acres of playing fields, meadow and woodland.

In addition to exclusive safe access to the fabulous outdoor learning environment the children also benefit from the broad curriculum and facilities that the Buchan school has to offer, and specialist teachers come into nursery to introduce the children subjects such as French music and drama.

The nursery children also get to start their journey towards a prestigious Buchan badge award through exciting and challenging activities.

Award Winning Childcare

The quality of our educational approach has been recognised by the Department of Education and Children in awarding The Buchan Nursery the Manx Step Into Quality Award.

We are proud to receive the reward as it reflects our efforts to give the children the best possible start their education. The fusion of the excellence and reputation of the Buchan school with the expertise in early years care and education from Hopes & Dreams provides a special and unique offering on the Isle of Man.

Winning awards is great but more important to us is the difference we make for the children and their families.
It’s always nice when our customers take the time to let us know how much they value what we do and you can see from the reviews further down this page just how highly valued we are.

Buchan Bushcraft

Our exciting Buchan Bushcraft program is unique to the Buchan nursery and the Buchan school. It gets the children out and about every day exploring and discovering the world around us throughout the year and in all weathers. Your child will actively learn about being outdoors; their environment, the plants and creatures in nature and the seasons. Through fun activities, exploration and discovery your child will learn how to assess risks and stay safe whilst developing confidence, physical skills, listening skills, teamwork and problem solving abilities.

The program is led by two experienced forest school practitioners passionate about our outdoor environment. In a world that is becoming increasingly technology led we need to encourage and support children to recognise and enjoy the simple fun of playing outdoors. It is really good for children and we are delighted to be able to provide this opportunity.

Come Grow With Us

Our setting allows us to provide the children with opportunities that other nurseries simply cannot. One initiative that is really beneficial in supporting your child’s development and extending their learning is our Buchan Growing Together Initiative.

Buchan Growing Together involves the children, in collaboration with children in the school, developing and growing flowers, plants and vegetables in our own safe allotment area.

As well as the benefits for your child of nurturing and caring for the plants, watching them grow, enjoying physical activity in the fresh air in all types of weather we can support the learning indoors with activities that extend the children’s knowledge in so many areas such as discovering where our food comes from, counting, measuring and discussing what plants need to grow and how they are affected by the weather.
